Restoration of Zaria City Wall

The Project aims to restore the ancient and historically significant Wall of Zaria traditional city. Part of this restoration also involves the re-development of the Gates, which are in a state of disrepair.

The Wall covers a length of about 15 km., and is punctuated by eight (8) gates, each of which has its own history and importance.

• The Proposal involves the construction of the Wall using both traditional and modern methods of materials and construction, following the exact route and foundation of the old wall.

• The Gates are to be re-developed in reinforced concrete structures, designed to depict the 4 Ruling Houses of the Emirate. 

• The traditional moat, both inside and outside the Wall shall be retained and properly drained through the various streams traversing the Old City.
